Lefebvrite bishop appeals Holocaust-denying conviction
Richard Williamson, the Society of St. Pius X (Lefebvrites) bishop convicted last year in a German court for denying the Holocaust, has begun an appeal against that conviction. Williams is a British citizen.
His defense? He says:
- He was tricked into saying the comments by a TV interviewer.
- He was asked "leading questions" which led him to make the comments over which he was convicted.
- He did not think his comments would be aired in Germany, where denying the Holocaust is a criminal offense.
