Mary Garrigan spent 30 years as a reporter, editor and columnist for newspapers in South Dakota. She worked as a grant writer for five years before retiring in 2020. She and her husband live in Rapid City, South Dakota, and are members of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church.

Perspective

As a girl, I couldn't be an altar server. Becoming one at 63 has been a gift.

Perspective: Years ago, I wanted my children to serve Mass, but maybe it was me, not them, whom God was calling to that ministry. Today, serving on the altar has brought me in closer proximity to the sacred.
