Hands Up - Let's Pray

This is pretty amazing. Last Sunday, Archbishop Blase Cupich presided at Mass at St. Clement's church in Chicago. He called attention to the mosaic in the apse, in which Christ's hands are extended, and also bent, as if He is willing to carry us all. He noted that at the end of the General Intercessions, he holds up his hands in this "orantes" position and he invited the congregation to do the same, "in solidarity with those who have their hands raised in these days with a sense of frustration that the system does not seem to work for them." And so, at the General Intercessions, the entire, largely white, largely affluent congregation adopted the orantes position, latterly known as the "Hands up, don't shoot" position. Here is a link to a recording of the homily which begins at 18:42.
