At the website of the Archdiocese of Chicago, Cardinal Blase Cupich's homily at a special Mass kicking off that city's St. Patrick's day celebrations at Old. St. Pat's. I am told his words were well received as well they should be. 

From the AP, Newark's Cardinal Joe Tobin went to a local courthouse to pray with a grandfather facing deportation proceedings. 

At a Mass opening a Napa Institute symposium, Tim Busch says that we Americans see the present as "a time of light" after a "time of darkness." I wonder if his Latino coreligionists view it that way. And, why is he saying something like this at a Mass? At one of his cigar receptions, he can say what he wants, but such explicit partisanship has no place at a Mass. His comments appear just after the six minute mark. 

Yesterday, before Mass, the organist at St. Matthew's Cathedral, Paul Hardy, played my favorite of Bach's chorale preludes, O mensch bewein. The modulations in the last four measures are as modern as anything Stavinsky ever did. Just stunning:
