The Washington Post reports that the White House is working on an alternative to the current "accommodation" for religious non-profits that object to complying with the contraception mandate. It is not clear from the report what that alternative would look like. And, I still do not see much difference, in terms of illicit material cooperation with evil between filling out a form that states you object and sending it to your insurer, and sending a letter to HHS that says you object, and having them contact the insurance company. And, on the other hand, shame on the White House for not pursuing an alternative strategy all along. But, if we can set this argument aside, and the White House comes up with a work-around acceptable to everybody, there will be one less front in the culture wars and that is a very, very good thing.
