Can’t help but say that I was surprised to have a news alert come to my phone telling me that U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill had come out supporting marriage equality. Senator McCaskill, a Roman Catholic, announces her decision just a few days before the Supreme Court is scheduled to start hearing arguments on marriage equality.
The most important part of her announcement was the context in which she framed it, around the bible verse I Corinthians 13: “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” Democrats are clearly becoming more comfortable talking about our faith—and by proxy, more comfortable for standing up for the gospel message of love and tolerance.
