'Urban monk' lightens up CTA audience

Amid the ruins of an abandoned cathedral where homeless familiies were living, Shane Claiborne and his community caught a fresh vision of what it means to be church. Speaking before an audience of 2,000 in unscripted remarks bubbling through is energetic personality, Claiborne spoke about the experiences of living the radical Christian life in inner-city Philidelphia, in Calcutta and in a mega congregation outside Chicago. His stories track the life of a young man ambushed by the gospels, carrying evangelical vigor into a deeper radical Catholic commitment.

NCR Editor at Large Tom Roberts profiled Claiborne in the Oct. 29th, 2010 issue.
